My car. People hate how rough and loud it is and I wish it had a sixth gear and consumed less oil, but it's so fun I'm willing to overlook that.

I do really like the FTO! I'd love to own one just to make people confused.

But the answer to your question:

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah, it's the cheap 911, etc. But I think it looks better and is a saner option.

Dodge Challenger. It's my favourite muscle car, despite people banging on about how heavy it is, and how it's out-performed by the Mustang, Camaro, blah blah blah...

I totally agree with you, I have a BX Sport (GTI engine but with a pair of Solex twin carbs instead of injection). It's the typical french weird car. The must is the GTI 16 : 160 horspepower in a car that weight just a ton and an engine which stands 7500rpm.

Maserati Biturbo. I don't care how unreliable people say these things are. Reliability issues can be fixed if you're clever. What you have after that is a 2.0l twin-turbo V6 attached to a getrag 5-speed and RWD in an E30-sized package with options to swap in a torsen LSD and a 2.8l TT V6 :) tell me that's not cool...

My little FG2 Civic. I get a lot of shit from non-petrolheads about how it's a foreign piece of shit, and an equal amount of shit from fellow petrolheads about how it's wrong-wheel-drive, "numb as a Camry" (lolwut), and in general boring. Throw in the crowd that sees "Civic" and thinks "ricer" and I get a lot of hate for my car. Not that I've ever really given a shit about it. It's a fun car regardless, and with the budget I'm on, that's hard to come by.

Ah c'mon, the saxo was not special at all, just a re-badged 106 (and the latter looked better). The XM is quirky and special, and it was the last Citroën that would really "drop" when stopped.

I agree on the C6 however. But quite a failure it's been!

I used to go on a forum where a member had bought one of those. He had pretty amazing DIY skills, but even him could barely keep his on the road.

He ended up swapping the 2.0L TT for a 2.8 in order to get the car on the road and with the plan to put the original 2.0L back later. But the 2.8 had a ton of issues as well. Not even sure he ended up making it roadworthy.

Fancy front too ! Hydropneumatic suspension for front and rear, 4 positions of suspension (stanced but totally impossible to drive, normal, a little high and very high to change wheel or inspect under the car), self-levelling (depending on how much and where you load the car, it will keep the same heigh) all that tricks are done excusively by mechanic parts (no electronic !).

Oh my gosh, what else? Rust started at 44,000 around the rear window, it needed two engines in 75,000, drank oil like an alcoholic goes for vodka, seats fell apart, silver trim inside peeled revealing a purple plastic underneath, even the air conditioner smoked!

I do want it back, so much! It's my Orange Crate, the 1973 RX-2. Thank you Mazda, for this mess of a car that made my youth.

Yes to this. Your mom is right on many things but don't take her advice on this one, go beetle! I have had beetles before but not now sadly, I NEED a one again very badly so be careful, they can be addictive.

Here is a pic of my Citroën BX Sport.

I've never heard of Solex Lock before, Solex is (was) a french company which produced many carburettor (like Weber or Zenith) and beside that activity they also made VeloSolex (i have one too), a front wheel drive moped (!) very popular in France (it was the equivalent of the 2CV but on two wheels : affordable, simple and economical to use).

bugs are great cars, to a degree! & fun! but I cant honestly recomend for anyone to have one as primary car, even if a mechanic, unless you owned 2. plus a spare "beater" engine ready to go, while its true they run what seems like forever, lots of performance parts are available, which can shorten the life of your engine, & speed cost money, how fast do you want to go? & bugs require more attention than nearly any other vehicle I have ever owned. I have been around the scene for close to 35 years, off & on as I get the wild hair to put one on the road. & there are many differences between the years, & there is a lot to learn, if asked I will give a quick breakdown of variances

for example the drum brakes while they stop fine, do leave something to be deisred, & it left stock, well they need to be adjusted every time you turn around, & they use 2 adjusters for each wheel, or 1 per brake shoe. so much fun crawling under adjusting all wheels in winter, where almost all other vehicles have automatic adjusting brakes. you will know they need adjusting when you mash brake pedal & it goes nearly to floor & you have to pump a second time to get good brakes. some guys I have seen wait until it takes 3 pumps to avoid doing it during bad weather. they can be converted to disc brakes, but thats $$$

next the fan belt has to be adjusted periodically, you remove the pulley on generator, or alternator, and switch position of the shims from center of pulley, to outside pulley, which makes belt ride higher in pulley, & this is something like a every 5,000 mile ritual, you start with supposedly 10 shims, however I have seen some that used 9 to 12 shims in center with a new belt.

next no oil filter, a screen, which you should clean occasionally, & hopefully the bug you buys has a drainplug? many you will need screen gaskets, as no drain plug, but you can change the plate to use a drain plug, next holds under 3 quarts of oil, so any leaks & you can start overheating your motor fast.

the oil cooler is notorious for blowing seals, plus if early style fan shroud, it preheats the number 3 cylinder, making it run hotter & stock distributors compensate by retarding spark to #3 cylinder a couple degrees, some distributors dont, & make that cylinder run hotter, now if you have a dog house cooler, its out of the path for cylinder && head cooling, but if the seals are not good shape on doghouse, or the tubes to your heater boxes, you loose vital cooling airt & you overheat your engine.

now while your doing the oil change pop the valve covers off its just a bail type spring, & adjust valves. yes every oil change, its great preventative maintenance, & your first time you do this I recomend buying stock new adjuster screws that havent been pounded out by not doing correct adjustments, plus always have a spare set of valve cover gaskets, from time to time they tear, or start leaking. keep notes which valves are tighter than last time, as thats the ones you have to watch, as they are pounding into the head, & you will need a rebuild on heads in future, also the pushrod tubes are made of super thins steel, & will rust out easily, & even a small pebble can puncture when they get some age, make sure the guards are covering them, & when you instal new ones, make sure you put a heavy coat of paint on them, unless you use aluminum ones, & dont use the nylon ones except for emergency, they warp with heat, & are useless, but will get you home, & are recomended to anyone that travels, as you cant put stock tubes in without loosening the head,

now my long winded page only applies to type 1 beetles, & Ghias, & early VW busses that used the upright engine made prior to 1972, unless someone installed a early engine into later bus, not recomended because of gearing. the later busses used a type IV engine common to the porsche 914, but different in a few ways, I can explain if interested, but page is long enough, & the type III use a engine very similiar to a type 1, with crank driven fan. & I still have a few busses, 1 water cooled Vanagon, 1 type III, and several beetles in my back yard.
